Returning back to the office after Circuit Breaker?

Make health and safety one of your biggest priorities. Here are some tips to ensure your physical workplace is safe as you get back into the swing of things.

Is your office and workspace clean and healthy?

It has been a while since anyone has stepped into the office. Take ownership of your workplace. Common areas and individual workspaces should be cleaned and well disinfected.

  • Santise all contact points, like stationeries, keyboards, phone dial buttons, phone receivers, as well as commonly used items at your work station.
  • Go through shared cupboards and fridges and throw away any expired consumables.
  • Clean out food stashed in desks upon returning to work to avoid pests and mould.
  • Keep disinfectant in common areas to wipe down counters, door handles, elevator buttons, and appliances after use. Keep hand sanitisers handy for quick disinfecting when you can’t wash your hands.

Stay safe by encouraging good hygiene

After cleaning the workplace, it’s important to encourage everyone to keep it safe and healthy. Be kind and thoughtful. when everyone does their part, the whole office will feel more at ease. Small actions go a long way.

    • Wear a mask and/or face shield.
    • Practice safe distancing.
    • Cough/sneeze etiquette (into a tissue or elbow)/
    • Hand washing practices.
    • Avoid touching things that belong to others or sharing items with colleagues.
    • Most importantly, don’t go to work if you are feeling unwell or if someone at home is not well.

Be Eco-friendly

There are plenty of cleaning and sanitising options available. While it is important that we have access to them, do spare a thought for the amount of trash disposable items will generate. As much as possible, choose items that are reusable, refillable, and recycle-able.

Re-establish Rapport and Connection with your Colleagues and Teams

Physical distancing does not literally mean social distancing. Staying in touch with people feeds the human connections we all need to thrive daily.

While it is wise not to gather in big groups, get creative with reconnecting, and building rapport with your colleagues. Have a department ZOOM lunch, start a “who looks best in a mask” beauty competition, and bring some fun back into your workplace.

The pandemic may have made social interactions more challenging but we can all bridge that gap through technology and connections.

Restore Productivity

After a few months of working remotely, everyone is likely to have fallen into a home office routine. However, going back to commuting, earlier alarms and having less flexible work hours might feel jarring.

  • Be flexible with work hours for the first few weeks.
  • Be mindful that this is a period which affects everyone, find ways to help one another along.
  • The new normal requires new ways of handling things, so be open to adjustments and changes.
  • Stay positive, there are bound to be some problems and inconveniences. See those challenges as opportunities and take them on!
  • Be a team. Come up with creative ideas to build rapport and camaraderie.
